How to Apply for ANCC Certification

Some of ANCC's certification examinations are computer-based, and others are paper and pencil. Make sure you are following the correct procedure for your exam. Click here for a list of computer-based tests; click here for a list of paper-and-pencil exams.

Computer-based tests (CBTs)

1. Select your exam.

Determine which exam you will be taking by reviewing the:

  • Basic eligibility requirements;
  • Description of practice; and
  • Specific eligibility requirements for each description of practice.

2. Collect, complete, and submit the required information.

This includes the application form as well as a variety of other required forms and supporting documents. Click the link for your exam in the column at right for a complete checklist; some are available online. We recommend that you make a copy of all submitted documents for your files; ANCC cannot return them.

Include a legible copy of your membership card to receive the discount rate for partnering organizations. Mail the complete application packet and fees to ANCC, P.O. Box 791333, Baltimore, MD 21279-1333.

3. Optional verification request.

Successful certification candidates are entitled to one free verification request; additional verifications are available for a fee. Click here for more information.

Paper-and-pencil exams

1. Select your exam.

Determine which exam you will be taking by reviewing the:

2. Choose the exam date.

Decide if you want to take the examination in May or October. Allow yourself sufficient lead time to collect and assemble the information required for the certification application to meet the application filing deadlines.
